In their ruling, officials concluded that Hamilton had not made a discernible reduction in speed. However, they also determined that several factors had significantly limited the driver’s ability to react. According to the FIA, Hamilton had already entered the sector before the yellow flag and warning lights were activated. By the time the caution appeared on his steering wheel display, he was nearing the end of the affected section of track.

Stewards further noted that there was no yellow light panel within Hamilton’s immediate field of vision and that the dashboard warning remained visible only briefly. The panel also considered that Hamilton was engaged in a close battle with Max Verstappen at the time, likely affecting his attention as he fought for position on track.

The outcome came after another dramatic afternoon for the British driver. Hamilton’s race had begun on a difficult note after he received a five-second penalty for a false start. The sanction, served during his first pit stop, appeared to leave his hopes of a podium in serious doubt.

Moments after the chequered flag, the focus shifted to the stewards’ room when news emerged that Hamilton was under investigation. Speaking before the verdict was announced, the Briton admitted he feared another punishment.

“It feels like when it rains it pours,” Hamilton said, acknowledging that another sanction appeared possible after his earlier false-start penalty.

The stewards ultimately disagreed, handing the Ferrari driver only his first reprimand of the 2026 season. The ruling capped a chaotic afternoon at Silverstone, where several decisions by race officials came under scrutiny.

The FIA later acknowledged that confusion surrounding the Safety Car procedure had been caused by a software issue, an explanation that sparked criticism from commentators and observers. Elsewhere, stewards also took unprecedented action involving Carlos Sainz following the race, adding to a day filled with investigations and controversy.

Despite the setbacks, Hamilton’s podium could prove significant in the championship race. The third-place finish moves the Ferrari driver closer to championship leader Antonelli, reducing the gap between the two to 32 points with several races still remaining in the season.

Hamilton later admitted that he had struggled with the car throughout the weekend, revealing that the pace shown during Friday practice had disappeared as the event progressed. The British driver pointed to a lack of front-end grip and suggested Ferrari may have misjudged its front-wing setup heading into Sunday’s race.

Even so, the final outcome represented a positive result for both driver and team. Charles Leclerc secured victory to lead Ferrari to a memorable one-two finish, while Hamilton’s podium extended his extraordinary record at the British Grand Prix and provided another reminder of his resilience at Silverstone.
