According to palace sources cited by the BBC, the Duke of Sussex had been offered accommodation but failed to formally accept the invitation before an administrative deadline. The invitation was subsequently withdrawn over the weekend because hosting guests at the palace requires advance planning and staffing arrangements.
Representatives for Prince Harry offered a different version of events, saying the invitation had already been accepted and describing its withdrawal as “disappointing”.
The contradictory accounts have once again drawn attention to the strained relationship between Prince Harry and the royal household, underscoring the continuing tensions that have defined relations between the Duke of Sussex and the monarchy since he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for Harry and Meghan have publicly clarified the discrepancy.
